that is a limitation of the native HSQL database engine (no base problem) ..
but, there must be a limitation .. if it would be one million, you could write
an issue that base cannot handle varchar columns that exceed a length of more
than a million, but database xy can ;)
p.s. please discuss such stuff in the corresponding mailing lists, were there
get rather more attention
