There doesn't seem to be a transparent way of 'seeing' (later on, afterwards) how these two approaches are different and how one type of numbering can be removed and the correct one substituted. Also in addition: I don't see how the outline numbering solution addresses the issue of a document which requires numbered 'Appendix A', 'Appendix B', 'Appendix C' at the end of the document.
