I tried entering in the " character myself though and then the problem arises. I'll attach a modified version of your spreadsheet showing the problem with the " character in C1. I copy/pasted the contents of A1 and C1 into a text editor and viewed the binary. Seems like your " is 0x22 and mine is 0xe2809c. I'm using a UK keyboard on Ubuntu 7.04 where " is on the '2' key. In fact typing this character out in Firefox or gvim gives 0x22, as one would expect. Perhaps the problem is just a matter of keyboard handling in Calc?
