blueninja, thanks for looking at this - but unfortunately your idea still
doesn't resolve the problem for me. 3.0 can't 'take over' the existing
registrations from 2.4 because, on W2K, 2.4 doesn't register properly either.
Upgrading from 2.3 to 2.4 using WRITE_REGISTRY=1 doesn't work either - probably
because, as you've now identified, the registry entries changed so the old
entries can't be 'taken over'. If I know what the registry entries were for 2.4,
then I could add them manually and then install v3 - though that won't help
other users of W2k.
W2K may only be 2.11% of the market now, but the regular Mac OS only has 2.69%
so resolving this should be taken seriously.
