Ah, so I got you wrong in the past ... correct me if I'm wrong:
- by default (for a newly created Base doc connecting to a Oracle/JDBC
  database),
  - "Append the table alias name ..." is OFF
  - "Use keyword AS before ..." is ON, but disabled
- when you check "Append the table alias name ...", then "Use keyword AS ..."
  becomes enabled
- when you then switch "Use keyword AS ..." OFF - is this respected then?

Where "is this respected" can mean two things, which might be different bugs
(thus my impertinence in asking what we talk about here :):
- When you create a query in the graphical design mode, add a table and a
field from this table, and switch to SQL mode - is there an AS created
in the SQL statement or not?
- When you *remove* the AS in SQL mode, and switch "Run SQL directly" ON,
and execute the query - do I understand it right that your logs then
prove that AS is *still* being generated by Base?

The first item would be a bug in the query designer (not respecting the "Use
keyword AS ..." setting), the second item would be (as you correctly understood
it) a bug somewhere else, in that a statement with "Run SQL directly" being ON
should never be tampered with by Base.
