I guess that on the other machine there is a font that advertises support for 
CJK glyphs but it has these 
rectangules just as placeholders. It is almost impossible to catch situations 
like these programmatically. If 
a font advertises support for a codepoint then it must deliver. Since this is a 
font bug the resolution 
INVALID is most appropriate, I agree with that.
