Interesting. I would like to add something, maybe it's a strange idea, but let's
see.

svg is not the only graphics format OOo can't edit directly. So if I have my
graphic embedded in my Writer document, there is only one way to change it later
on: save the graphic via context menu, edit it externally and then reinsert it. 

We could make this at least a two-step process by adding an "edit graphics
with..." entry. It would save the graphics and start the selected external
editor. After successful editing we could use a "re-import" entry in the context
menu to update the file again. We could switch the embedded graphic to a linked
one when we export it and then switch back to embedded after editing is 
finished.
