You need some DDE server applications to establish these number of DDE
connections, as to me, I'm using thinkDesktop (TOS), which produce the following
links:

=DDE("TOS";"LAST";"SPY")
=DDE("TOS";"LAST";"AMZN")

When number of such unique links exceeds 1000, significant performance slowdown
can be observed, for case >5000, it uses all 'communication handles' with the
underlying OS and OpenOfiice.Org Calc become totally frozen for several minutes
and thinkDesktop is unable to open new windows with the following exception:
ERROR util.SystemErrorDialogImpl - Handling swing error: The current process has
used all of its system allowance of handles for Window Manager objects.

allowance of handles for Window Manager objects.

OpenOfiice.Org Calc 2.4 will be wake up (previous versions were unable to wake
up even after several hours), but almost all links will not be establish (N/A
values)
