Ah...this makes things a bit different. But what I'm still confused of is that
in the first paragraph of your last post you wrote that the second instance
CRASHED after loading the document and in the third paragraph you wrote that the
second instance SHUTS DOWN IMMEDIATLY after loading the document.

Crashing and shutting down is not the same. If OOo is crashing you should see a
dialog that tells you that OOo caused a problem (in some rare cases this might
not be OOo's crash/restart dialog but at least Windows should inform you that
soffice.exe caused a problem). If the second instance just immediatly shuts down
you won't see none of those dialogs.

If the document recovery comes up with the second process and wishes to recovery
the document just loaded in the first instance this means that

1. The second instance does not recognize the first one
2. The second instance recognizes that the actually loaded document (in 1st
instance) wasn't closed properly (what's true because it's still open in the 1st
instance) and tries to recover the document.

Additionally you wrote that this does not happen when opening an additional
document from the Explorer.

I don't see any reason why a shell command executed from a 16bit Application
should behave different than executing it from 32bit (like Explrer) because at
least the loader process soffice.exe (and also swriter.exe etc) always loads
first and is a 32bit application.

So what I think what you are doing in the shell command is NOT equivalent to
what the explorer does.

My guess: You have two different installations of OOo (f.e. 2.4.1 and 3.0 RC2)
which are using the same user configuration. One of those installations is
registered in Windows explorer and the other one is called by FoxPro.
