I wonder if the preview that lhamm is seeing is somehow provided by the operating system file chooser dialog. The file chooser dialogs on Windows XP and on OpenSUSE 11.0 look like the system provided file chooser dialogs (WIndows, and GNOME in my case) and neither of those system provided dialogs has a thumbnail.
