I downloaded the official version of OpenOffice 2.4.1, compiled
for linux, packaged as .deb packages. I installed it on a debian
system running linux 2.6.18-6-486, using the usual dpkg. There
were no errors on installation.
   Icons were created as expected under the menus Application->Office
and Application->Debian->Apps->{Editors, Math, Graphics, ...}
Whenever I try to start a component of OpenOffice using the menus
it opens the initial X11 window and then it hangs. I have to force
quit the application to get out of it.
   However, if I start /usr/bin/soffice or /usr/bin/openoffice.org2.4
everything works fine.
   The problem is that the flags -w or -writer, -c or -calc, -d or
-draw, ... are not accepted. I can see the same bad behavior when
I type "/usr/bin/soffice -writer" (or -calc, -draw, etc.)
   Note that I am running gnome, and this is the etch version of debian
(version 4.0r4).
