I'm really happy with the native version of OpenOffice (I'm currently running 3.0 RC 3) on OS X 10.5, but this is a really frustrating problem for me. At work, we almost all use OpenOffice, but I occasionally get documents from customers that were created in Microsoft Word containing mathematical equations using greek symbols like β or τ.
