The user employs a standard British computer with Windows 2000 - GB version. A
special proprietary keyboard driver from Bijoy (details - see below) is used to
enable him to enter Bengali glyphs. This setup works perfectly when used for
input to Microsoft Word 2003.

He uses a keyboard with a mixed Bengali and US English labelling. Correct
operation means that when a single key is pressed, the glyph that is displayed
on the screen corresponds to the label on the keyboard. Because Bengali has
many ligatured letters, the driver uses the "G" key as a "compose" key, allowing
the display of the ligatured glyph from its two components. As implied above,
the correctly ligatured glyph is displayed under Microsoft Word 2003.

Under OpenOffice.org writer 2.3, the correspondance between the key labels and
the displayed glyph does not exist. In addition, the "G" compose key does not
work as required, and no other substitute has been found up to now.

The Bengali fonts display correctly in OpenOffice.org, and the "Insert Special
Character" menu choice works correctly. In addition, the a sequence of glyphs
previously entered into a Microsoft Word document can be copied and pasted into
an OO document correctly. This leads me to believe that the fault may well lie
in the interpretation of the keyboard signals by OO writer.

The keymapping of the Bijoy driver can be found on:

If required, we can supply samples of text for evaluation and testing.
