I think this bug might be a duplicate of bug 83367, but I don't understand what
is going on in that bug well enough to make that call.

"It is not possible to choose an empty cell as the name tag of a data set. If
entered manually, the cell address simply vanishes on completion, if entered via
the helper applet for choosing cells with the mouse, the helper applet also
simply closes. It should, however, be possible to use empty cells as name tag.
I'm preparing at the moment an empty table, which is supposed to be filled out
later on. As a workaround I enter at the moment some dummy text into the cells
which I want to use as name tags."
