I finally got the problem solved. Turns out that slackware comes with a rpm.
Running it with --nodeps got everything installed, and it works. Actually
simpler than what I was doing in the past (although OOO is no longer under
slack's version control). I don't know why both alien and rpm2tgz are
corrupting the generated tar files.
