The change was based on no data loss, only formatting loss and there is an 'easy' workaround (don't click on the background tab). You can even get the default back (create a new style with all the other attributes and reassign content to the new style) which is messy, time-consuming and ought to be unnecessary, but is possible. Thus, P3 seemed about right.
