In OOo3 we have changed our file treatment to use lock files. The reason for
that change was that - as you experienced yourself - system file locking does
not work reliably in heterogeneous networks, especially if the client software
itself also works on different operating systems.
We still have some problems here and there and in case you find one, please
check for already existing bug reports.
