This is similar to bug #85955 but I filed it because it happened in OOO 3.0
I just updated and I did not have this problem with ooo 2.4.1

If the user is on nfs and in pam_ldap openoffice.org3 freezes on starting a jre
- either on startup (with ods file given) or on selecting the java options
dialog.
After doing kill -9 (pid of oldest soffice.bin) I can continue with the
dialog/startup

If the user is local and has no nfs home (e.g. root) it works.

if the user is local and has (new and empty) home on nfs I get:
[Java framework] Error in function createSettingsDocument (elements.cxx).javaldx
failed!

To copy the config file javasettings_Linux_x86.xml to the nfs home dir does not
help either

ooo 3.0 .deb 32bit from openoffice.org
ubuntu 8.04 32bit
jre: tested sun 5 and 6 as well as gij 4.2 and 4.3
nfs v3, rpc.statd version 1.1.2
kernel 2.6.24
