well, guys, i am also experiencing this with my 800mhz, 128MB Ram notebook. what
i can just say is that with this configuration we seem to be below the swapping
border, meaning we don't have enough real RAM, so Linux will swap memory
permenatly and performance will rapidly decrease.

When running a a recent distro such as SuSE 9.x or the FC releases with a
default bloat windowmanager such as KDE it is no wonder.

What i can suggest is to switch to a lightweight window manager.

Also creating a ramdisk (same concept on Linux as on good old DOS) will help you
to increase GUI performance.

Good candidates for ramdisk [~10MB) are following directories:

~/.openoffice.org1.9.89,
~/m89/share/config,
~/m89/presets

Meanwhile developers do work on improving performance during startup and also
when operating so this definitely is taken care of.

As this issue has become now a collective issue, i close it as WorksForMe.
Thanks for supporting the project. Every reports is kindly appreciated.

Max,
