Let me add a very common example: Trying to link tables of sport results (Nine to Twelve), you may get the following evaluation of strings to formatted numbers: "9-12" => this year's 9th of December or US Dec 12th respectively "9:12" => 0.38333 (fraction of a day) With any other import method there is some trick to enforce literal strings, except for "Link to external data" which always overwrites formatting and values, evaluating everything in numeric context.
