I would like to be able to cut and paste equations from a rendering context
(e.g. presentations and text documents) to an evaluation context (e.g.
spreadsheet). Additionally, I'd like to be able to centrally manage my own
little library of equations and use them wherever I need to (preferably by
reference).

I have done some preliminary thinking as to how to accomplish this, primarily in
terms of modifications to the OpenDocument file format. However, I think this
functionality could also be implemented prior to any file format modifications.
Consistently using Content MathML semantically bound to Presentation MathML
should do the trick. Defining a reusable named expression in this context is
handled by an "OpenMath Content Dictionary" (CD), which could define the
structure of an "enhanced" formula document with sheets like a spreadsheet
notebook. The details of how to package the various openmath files (content
dictionaries, CD groups, signature files) into a formula document (*.odf) would
need to be determined.
