This issue is VERY important because when working with styles one should never resort to apply manual formatting to anything. It is also contrary to the XML approach of separation between contents and formatting that requires that all formatting be kept in styles. Other word processors have this feature. Not having it makes transition from other word processors to OO Writer quite cumbersome.
