2005 -------
Sorry guys, this was at least partially my fault. The document was originally
created with 1.1.3 on which I had installed the MS fonts. So the font wasn't
available to 1.9.87. After I copied the contents of the fonts subdirectory of
1.1.3 into 1.9.87 the problem disappeared. So it looks like more of a font
substitution issue.

I'll leave it up to you to decide whether that ugly rendering should have
occurred or not under those circumstances.
