I'm dealing with a more than 250 pages book with many chapters and lots of references from Version 1.x to now. Coherent numbering across chapters doesn't really work. This is not a minor bug but a major drawback, rendering the master document capability of Writer quite useless for me. I confess I have not tried version 3.0.1. I also acknowledge that OO is for free. But leaving users alone with so much frustration, effort and wasted time over years is disappointing.
