------- Additional comments from mlmo...@openoffice.org Tue Feb 24 22:55:05 +0000 2009 ------- [At the page where I had to make an initial choice of what part of OOo I was submitting an issue for, and on the page for entering issues, there does not appear to be a way to navigate to or select "Help" as the target. I am not talking about the written documentation, I am talking about OOo's Help tool. I didn't know where to file this so I put it here. It would be good if someone would redirect this somehow or tell me where to refile it.] I have been looking for documentation of many keystroke shortcut commands as named in the keyboard section of the Customize tool for Writer. Documentation for some of these is hard to find because the function names are different from equivalent menu commands. For many, documentation is hard to find because the wording in the index and search parts of Help is very different from the command name. For some of the commands I just haven't been able to find any documentation at all. I think there are also some differences between the command names in customize and what they are called in the keyboard shortcut summary in help. I realize this is a very general issue post and would be happy to provide clarifications if I knew what to do. Also, although I'm only using Writer at present I'm sure the same problem exists for the other applications. What really needs to happen is that the entire list of keyboard shortcuts and all the functions in the keyboard section of the customize tool (ideally including ones that don't initially have keybindings) should be surveyed to make sure that (1) the shortcut table names and the customize function names agree [minor changes] and (2) [significant effort] that a help page corresponding to the function can be located by an entry in the index that corresponds closely to the function name. Out of desperation I sometimes simply search the documentation for a function key, which sometimes helps. But there are some commands that I'm convinced are not documented anywhere. An example: Calculate Table, shift-F9. I would be willing to do the survey and report the function names for which help is difficult to find or non-existent. Someone would have to tell me this wouldn't duplicate someone else's effort, that it would be a useful contribution, and what to do with the report I produce. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
