It comes to this because those acronyms are not listed under "Format -
AutoCorrect - AutoCorrect Options - Exceptions - Abbreviations (no subsequent
capital)"
To add them automatically:
- type "U.S.S.R. from"
-> corrected to "U.S.S.R. From"
- Press Ctrl+Z to undo
-> Undone to "U.S.S.R. from" and added to the list automatically.

This problem doesn't happen with "U.S." because you have probably undone one
time with it.
