It does not allow to be resized. Then display the pop-up menu clicking with the right mouse button, and select Position and Size. The Protect Size checkbox is selected. De-select it. Now you can resize the formula. However, once you have done it, the size gets protected again, and there is no way to unprotect it permanently.
