OOcalc v2.4.2 on FC9 - <Insert | Link to External Data | Available
tables/ranges> imports the cell contents rather than the cell values. Since the
contents, in my case, is a bunch of formulas referencing data local to the
table/range sheet, the results are useless.
My work around is to have an explicit URL <file:/// ...> in the cells of the
data sink. For some reason, this causes the data source sheet to "re-calculate"
and deliver the correct values to the cells of the data sink sheet. This is fun
to watch, because the data source sheet, in turn, has dependencies that
reference other external data sources. My case has 4 ODS files in the source to
sink chain.
---
Note: I have annual files (2008projectExpenses.ods) and the carry over's are
pulled from 2007projectExpenses. Spreadsheets are required because these
expenses are apportioned from posted actuals extracted from an RDBMS (time based
data spreads, AKA re-bucketing - ref: "management accounting" & "cost
estimating" concepts). SQL does not have the financial modelling and analysis
capabilities of a spreadsheet!
---
The "management accounting" elements, such as, BCWS (Budgeted Cost of Work
Scheduled), BCWP (Budgeted Cost of Work Performed), ECAC (estimated cost at
completion), and ECD (Estimated Completion Date) require a lot of calculations.
