In the mean time Writer seems to be hanging. The whole idea of context menus is to have quick access to the applicable options. The expected context menu shows 'Default Formatting' on the top line. Note then when there is a spelling error the context menu pops op within seconds with suggestions for corrections. This behavior did not occur with OO 2.4.2.
