When saving as an xls document originally created in either Calc or Excel you
can't save it as a shared spreadsheet. When opening an xls document that was
originally created in Excel as a shared document many users can edit it in
Excel, but only one user can edit it with Calc. If you save these in the ods
format sharing works, but we would then need to install the compatibility pack
on all PCs in the environment, which is less than ideal. If you could get
OpenOffice to be able to share an xls document we could eliminate a large
number of MS Office installs.
