I have tried to replicate this behavior on a similar configuration (Win XP SP3),
I followed the steps suggested by the reporter, and I got the same results.

But I'm not sure if this behavior could be considered a feature, anyway, and not
a bug. Maybe the thumbnail is intended to show only "consolidated" slides, I
mean slides not currently under update?

I verified in Powerpoint 2000 (I have only that version available) if there was
a similar behavior. That version of Powerpoint may visualize (in parallel with
slides) only the thumbnail related to the visualized slide, but when you update
the slide, Powerpoint effectively updates the correspondent thumbnail.

Another related behavior in the version of Impress Im looking at (Dev300m48
build 9401) is the following one. If I try to update the body of the slide, the
body in the thumbnail becomes blank. If I try to update the title of the slide,
the title in the thumbnail becomes blank. But if I then position my cursor on
another element of the slide (passing from the title to the body, or vice
versa), the thumbnail does not change any more. If the title was blank in the
thumbnail, even if the active element under update in the slide is now the body,
the thumbnail remains with the blank title and the body visualized, and not
refreshed.
