I can't seem to attach a file here, but you can recreate the problem as follows:

1. Create a blank Calc spreadsheet.
2. Enter a formula into cell B2 that reference the previous cell in the same 
column. I used this formula: =IF(ROW(B2)=ROW(B1)+1;"Okay";"ERR").
3. Copy (Command + C) cell B2.
4. Select cells B3 through B6.
5. Paste into cells B3 through B6.
6. If this works so far, then copy cell B2 and paste into cells B4 through B6. 
This causes Open Office to 
hang and then try to recover.
