When I broke the links, the file opens quickly. 1) What I found to be a a bigger problem, is that it takes a very long time for Calc to break the links (about the same order of time as the slow loading). 2) If my shaky DSL connection goes down, Calc still tries to open the file but can't. Once the connection was re-established, it then opened the file eventually (more than ten minutes elapsed).
