Each link has to be resolved and each graphic has to be downloaded. Depending on your Internet connection and the reach ability of the server this may take some time. So this is not a bug but misuse of Spreadsheet cells. Please open the document even it's a pain to wait for it to be ready. Press F5. Click on Graphics in the now open Navigator and have a look at the entry's. Go to Edit-Links, Click on the First link, scroll down to the last one, Press and hold SHIFT and click on the last entry. Now click on break link and the Links will be broken but the gif's will still be in the cells there you've placed them.
