In fact, the value can be changed or deleted 'by hand'... until the link is updated. For a calculated cell, the input line shows the formula, not its result. For a linked cell, the input line should show the link, so that the user knows the datum was not just entered by hand. In fact, all linked or calculated cells should have a special format, eg, a different colour, because the user does not always look at the input line.
