I just finished designing the layout for a rather large spreadsheet,
encompassing about 150 columns. These columns needed to be sequentially
color-coded, primarily, to signfy the data's logical categorizations.

For such circumstances, it would be terribly wonderful if cells could be
assigned dynamic color gradients.

For example, one could assign a starting gradient RGB for Column A RGB, and an
ending gradient RGB for Column B (or whatever columns you'd like). For rows,
just the same: Row start RGB through Row end RGB. Calc would then dynamically
ensure that the columns or rows in between the gradients were colored as
specified. through Column B, or Row 1 RGB through Row 2 RGB).

>From a performance perspective, it would be economical for such a formatting to
be a simple one-time process, rather than *maintaining* this dynamic gradient.
So, e.g., if you add or remove a column or row after you already effected this
gradient, the formatting (including color) inheritence would behave as normal,
etc.

Graphically, it certainly appears to me that the Format Cells> Background tab
certainly has a little extra realestate to develop.

This enhancement is somewhat related to another Enhancement suggestion of mine,
entitled "General Enhancements to Options> OpenOffice.org> Colors"

Thanks for reading!
