You cannot search for the apostrophe, because it is not there. For example enter
'567 into cell A1. The cell content is now the text 567. If you use =LEN(A1) in
cell B1 you will get 3 not 4. The cell content has no apostrophe. The apostrophe
is only shown in edit mode to distinguish text from numbers if necessary.

For your actual converting problem the extension "Convert Text To Number (and
date)" might help you. But work on a copy of your spreadsheet document, I have
not tested that extension.
