It's set ath the OC and a callback for each object's primitive creation is done. There, the geometry is suppressed and the frame is created. Unfortunately, not all primitive creation paths use this mechanism, so it's not always used. With VOCs and the primitive creation placed there it would be much better to handle this exception there.
