NOTE - this might not be the icons here, but the metadata FileType.
NOTE - this may also be from a de-install of MSO 2007 after OO.o was installed.
I'll try to check this against a clean install of Win 7 in the near future.

Win 7 (ultimate - the freebie), OO.o 3.2 (m_56 - odficons) from qs-upload.

After removing MSO 2007 from the system reassign the default application for
files *.doc to use swriter.exe.

I have 2 files with the same name, different file types:
Rental Application.doc
Rental Application.odt

They are stored in the same physical location:
c:\Users\Drew\My Documents\

Screen shot 1
- this is the window manager browsing the disk directory. Note that both files
are displayed, both using the ODF Text icon, but the file type is different for
each. Now instead of DOC type for the .doc file it is of type: Microsoft Word
97......

[in the screen shot the 'fly over' data displayed is from hovering the mouse
over the Rental Application.odt file entry]

Screen shot 2
- I am looking at the library view "Documents" and am sorting by "Type". The
highlighted entry is from the Rental Application.doc file.

Screen shot 3
- Drilling down into the "MS Word 97" files. No entry is displayed.

This was not the case when MSO 2007 was installed, even if .doc files where
associated with OO.o (either soffice.exe or swriter.exe).

It is also not the case if the .doc file is associated with soffice.exe as the
default application.
