In the past we always preferred using the local OOo directories instead of using the system directories. If it is necessary we can also add further copies of these files into the other OOo-directories. Concerning the MergeModule I have to say, that we are planning to remove the usage of MergeModules completely, because they are no longer fully supported by MS. It is difficult to get updates. MS has problems with patches, if other programs includes their MergeModules but do not take care of required patches. Therefore I want to remove the integration of the "Microsoft_VC90.msm" files and replace them by redistributables (exe files) that are installed with CustomActions. This is planned for OOo 3.3.
