A search with or without regex is not bound to the insertion point or text cursor position (except that the search starts there). The limitation to the one paragraph only span of search expressions cannot be bypassed by highlighting or selecting multiple paragraphs. There is no way to run 2 regexes at the same time. What we possibly mean is that any regex search will stop at paragraph borders. Should we better use an example? If you search for "border.*better" in the two paragraphs above this one, the search will not succeed because of the paragraph end inside the matching result. Remove the paragraph end, and the search succeeds.
