I tried this and it worked as designed. However i guess that you did not
configure the duplex printer in question using spadmin, but printed to a print
queue that prepends a duplex enable command to the actual print job.

To achieve the desired behaviour your should use the spadmin program in your OOo
installation, add a printer with the correct PostScript printer description and
configure it to enable duplex. Please ensure that this printer uses a command
line that prints to a "raw" queue, meaning one that will pass the PostScript
from OOo to the printer without further tweaking.

The reason for your problem is that OOo does not know anything about Duplex
printing. It just prints one print job; but if you turn collation on, than it
will print the same job as often as the copy count is. But if you use spadmin to
configure Duplex things are different: without collation each page is printed
once with a copy count of 3 (in your case). The printer, knowing that it has
duplex turned on will print two consecutive pages on one sheet and do this 3
times. This also works with collation as the printer knows that after the last
page of a job it has to emit the possibly one sided last sheet.

With OOo 2.0 you should not have this problem if you are using CUPS; if you
configured CUPS to use your printer in Duplex mode everything should be setup
correctly already.
