Some people -- e.g. those using Mac (it happened to me today!) -- don't know about using the extra 'x'. I couldn't open the file at all, not knowing about the Filter Selection, and I had to ask the sender to send it in a different format. (Of course, now I know how to open it, but think about how many people in the world will be saying, "OpenOffice says it can open Microsoft Word documents, but look, it can't!")
