I can confirm this bug using OOo 2.0 Beta on Windows XP. When the main window is
maximized once, the status bar moves over the editor region. This "gray bar"
appears exactly where the status bar was before maximizing, relative to the
window frame. When passed over it, the mouse cursor will change from an I-bar to
an arrow. Restoring the window to a non maximized state does not fix the problem
(in some cases the status bar only gets "erased".)

How to reproduce :
1) Start OOo Writer. Make sure the window is not maximized (if so, restore the
window, and restart.)
2) Save the empty document.
3) Re-open it from Explorer.
4) Fill the page with text (one character per line will do.)
5) Scroll to the top then maximize the window.
6a) Type a lengthy word (long enough for "Word completion") twice.
OR
6b) Save the file.

Maybe the summary of this bug should be changed to reflect this.
