I rather doubt my fonts are incorrectly installed - it's usual install as
thousands people do (i.e. all Linux fonts. e.g mentioned Dejavu Sans and Linux
Libertine; other two I mentioned are imported from Windows also in usual way).

I rather suspect KCharselect and OOo act somehow differently displaying subsets
in fonts - and it seems OOo's acting is somehow inferior as it doesn't display
all KCharselect can.

I'm not an expert but if you could you may install some Mandriva release (last
official one is 2009.1), then install at least Dejavu and Linux Libertine
(though probably they are installed by default) and KCharselect and compare
them. As far as I can see, result is quite different.
