------- Additional comments from graha...@openoffice.org Mon Nov 16 09:53:30 +0000 2009 ------- It seems that the only way that I can get this to work the way I need it to work is to use VLOOKUP instead of directly referencing the data cells. If I use the data order in Col A as the key to the data in a table in Col D and use a relative column of 1, meaning itself, =VLOOKUP($A2; $D$2:$D$9; 1; 0) for the data reference in Col C then it seems that whatever I do to the order of the data in Col D, the data in Col C remains in the correct order, i.e. the order specified in Col A. In the example I have used simply a single column, to illustrate the problem but in practice the real-life example would be a 2D table of multiple columns and rows of related data. All would have to be referred to with VLOOKUP, using relative columns 2, 3, 4... and so on. It does seem to me that this is a very heavy-handed way of going about what should be a simply problem but, if that's the way spreadsheets are designed to work then I suppose we have to live with it and work around it! --------------------------------------------------------------------- Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
