Hey, no it is a little too early to give up and start paying for an Office suite
again... :-)

When the office is de-installed and re-installed, the user path does not get
removed. So a new installation of OOo will access this user directory again and
may run into the same problems caused by "things within the user settings".

Since this occurs on a few machines only (assuming that all installations were
done "the same way"), maybe there is "odd characters" (Non-ASCII) in the
respective user names? - This sometimes causes trouble, too.

Please try this: Close the office (including quickstarter).
See tools -Options - OOo - Paths where to find the user settings, it should be
something like "..\Documents and Settings\[$UserName]\Application
Data\OpenOffice.org\3\user\...".
Rename ist (i.e. to \user_OLD\) or delete it. Then restart the office and see.
The user tree will be written anew and only then you have a "real fresh
installation" again.
