After certain actions, such as sort, the autofilter disappears. Since the setting of autofilter requires selecting all the data you want filtered, this sometimes requires selecting, and re-selecting, a large amount of data. "Click-shift-scroll-click" doesn't seem like much until you've done it six or seven times on the same data in ten minutes. Also if your data is filtered and you have done an action that removes the autofilter, the data is locked in the filtered view.
