The rest of this post explains why...feel free to ignore it. :) My company uses OOo in the field; employees input data into Calc at a wide variety of locations, and that data is then imported into a database at HQ. Much of the data is validated against a list (or named range) to minimize the errors during database import. However, often users will need to enter a value (such as a manufacturer name) that is not on the provided list. Therefore, the validation dropdown is provided, but users are also allowed to type new values. Because there is no autoinput against the list and it takes an extra mouse click or keyboard command to access it, we get a LOT of typos and alternative names for items already on the list. We then have to take the time to clean the data up before porting to the database.
