Words separated by emdashes are separate words and should not be treated as single entities. This has never been a problem in any version of OO that I've ever used, until 3.2. See example text below. You can cut-and-paste it or, alternatively, you can manually type it as in Example 2. Example 1 Hello there Please to—ignore all this—and this too.
